Open Geofeed currently operates on a draft version of what is now RFC8805. As part of our - some might say, overdue - modernization efforts, we’ll move to full RFC8805 conformance for the generated feeds as well as the validator.
This has two consequences:
* Delegation size will be removed from the feed
* ZIP code use is supported but discouraged due to privacy concerns. It will be possible to toggle ZIP code publication in the ASN settings
This change is planned to go live on Tuesday, April 14th.
PeeringDB has become one of the major hubs for information pertaining to the Internet ecosystem and enjoys broad adoption in the service provider community. To streamline the Open Geofeed onboarding process, you can now simply login using your PeeringDB account. This mechanism is also used to confirm association to Autonomous Systems.
PeeringDB SSO will be the only supported way for login and AS validation going forward. Legacy Account holders will be able to continue using their existing accounts, though.
geofeed-validator is the library that’s powering Open Geofeed’s core functionality. The new release introduces support for Python 3.14.
The domain opengeofeed.org was registered in March of 2014. Since then, our team at Anexia has been developing and running Open Geofeed as a public service for the Internet community.
However, the service was beginning to show it’s age. So now, 12 years after it’s inception, we’re proud to accounce, that it has received some major technical overhauls to increase performance and stability, many bugfixes and some useful new features, that we’ll showcase in the upcoming posts.
